What usually makes sense Etobicoke housing is older than most of the GTA, so the structure matters more here. When we pull carpet on a 1950s Sunnylea stair, the treads are often solid enough to recap. When we open a bungalow basement stair near Etobicoke Creek, the stringer bottoms are sometimes soft from decades of contact with damp concrete. My storey-and-a-half has steep stairs. Can they be recapped? Often, yes. Caps add a little height to each tread, so we plan the top and bottom rise carefully at the estimate.
